Root Canal

The Root Cause of Tooth Pain

There’s never a good time to get a toothache. But usually, it’s a clear sign that something’s not right in your teeth, and that we’ll need to take a look.

Severe decay can lead to the roots of your teeth becoming infected. Below the layers of dentin in your tooth lies the pulp. This is made up of blood vessels, nerves, and other tissue. When infection takes hold, it’ll gradually eat away at the pulp.

Fortunately, in most cases, we can save your tooth using a root canal treatment.

Everything will be done under anaesthetic so you won’t feel a thing.
Once we’re in, we’ll start to remove all of the bacteria causing the infection.

This Is Not Going to Hurt

When most people hear the words ‘root canal’, it sets off alarm bells. One common misconception is that root canal treatment is painful or uncomfortable. It’s not.

Everything will be done under anaesthetic so you won’t feel a thing. First, we make a small hole in the top of your tooth. We use this to gain access to the root canal. Once we’re in, we’ll start to remove all of the bacteria causing the infection.

A root canal can be done in just one or two sittings. Once we’re done, we’ll close the hole with a filling or a crown. Any discomfort you were experiencing before the procedure should start fading within the next day or so.
