Crowns and Bridges

Sayonara Gaps!

Gaps. Nobody wants them in their mouth, but what can you do? Thankfully, quite a lot!

There are several causes of tooth loss. Whether yours have been lost or damaged due to decay or in an accident, crowns and bridges can fill the hole.

Crowns and bridges are dental prosthetics that restore the appearance and function of your teeth.

What Is a Crown?

Every tooth has a crown. This is the visible portion that you use to chew. If this is eroded by decay or damaged due to trauma, and cannot be repaired with a filling, we might suggest using a dental crown. This will protect your tooth from further damage.

Replacement crowns are hard-wearing and are gold, metal, or can be carefully matched to the colour of your natural teeth using porcelain. For all intents and purposes, porcelain crowns look and function like your regular teeth.

Crowns can also be used to complete a dental implant placement where the root of the tooth is also being replaced. You may also need crowns if you’re having a bridge.

What is a Bridge?

To fill a complete gap in your teeth, we may recommend a bridge. These are usually made up of two crowns that are applied to healthy neighbouring teeth and a pontic, or false tooth, that fills the gap.

There are four types of bridges. These use a variety of techniques for supporting the pontic. Some use crowns, while others use a combination of crowns and metal supporting structures.

Placing Your Crown or Bridge

Both crowns and bridges are relatively easy to place. We’ll start the process by taking images and impressions of your teeth so that the perfect prosthetic can be tailored.

Before placement, we’ll talk you through what you can expect.
